Dr. David Sinclair

David A. Sinclair, A.O., Ph.D., holds a tenured professorship in the Genetics Department of the Paul F. Glenn Center for the Biology of Aging Research at Harvard Medical School. Renowned for his contributions to the field of aging, his research aims to uncover the mechanisms behind aging and ways to mitigate its effects. Sinclair earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, in 1995. Following this, he engaged in postdoctoral research at M.I.T. under Dr. Leonard Guarente, during which they identified a factor contributing to yeast aging and delineated the role of Sir2 in epigenetic modifications linked to genome instability. In 1999, Sinclair joined Harvard Medical School, where for over two decades, he has dedicated himself to teaching and researching aging biology and its translation to medicine. His initial studies focused on sirtuins, enzymes that modulate proteins in response to NAD+ fluctuations and caloric restriction. His interests extend to epigenetics, energy metabolism, mitochondrial function, cognitive functions, neurodegeneration, and cancer.
